Allegri: Napoli draw a show of character

AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri believes the team should have won during their recent encounter with Napoli.

The talking point of the game was Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic's sending off, reducing Milan to ten men and Allegri without his principle striking threat.

"Luckily, I have more players available in attack than I did this time last year and [I'm] hoping that Ibra doesn't get a long ban, he'll still be ready for the Champions League and the Italian Cup." he told acmilan.com

The Milan manager refused to downplay the single point the team achieved in this fixture, though he has admitted that the Rossoneri should have emerged victorious.

"Today we won an important point and maybe we even deserved the win, but it's an important point for many reasons. We slipped up in front of goal but we concede very few chances," Allegri stated.

"But more than anything, the type of performance we put in was important because it showed our character."

"Especially after Ibra's sending off, there's great willingness from everyone on the pitch."

Goalkeeper Marco Amelia expressed his frustration toward the loss of three points, believing that the team's hard work should have gotten them the win.

"We knew it was going to be a difficult game because we've seen in the past when teams play against us they tend to close up shop and try to play on the counter attack." the Italian said.

"Ibra's sending off put us in some difficulty, and we lacked a physical presence up front after that, but we still pushed on. It's a shame because we would have deserved the win."

AC Milan host Juventus at home for their next match. Both teams will battle it out in the first leg of the Coppa Italia sem-finals on Wednesday night.
