Maradona dreaming of Napoli return

Maradona dreaming of Napoli return

Ex Napoli forward Bruno Giordano has hinted that legend Diego Maradona would jump at the chance to manage his former side should the offer arise.

Former sharpshooter Giordano and current Al Wasl coach Maradona forged a deadly partnership for Napoli in the 1980s as the Partenopei claimed their maiden Scudetto crown in 1987.

The duo have been firm friends ever since their Napoli playing days and Giordano claimed that 1986 World Cup winning skipper Maradona will not resist the chance to lead his old club from the dugout.

"Maradona dreams of returning to Naples. He has become a very good trainer and deserves to be at top club in Europe," the 55-year-old told Calciomercato.

"Diego is now a coach who has evolved, he takes care of every detail and spends five to six hours a day on the field. He follows all Napoli matches and a player he loves is [Ezequiel] Lavezzi."

Maradona has etched his name in Napoli folklore, having made 188 Serie A appearances and scored 81 league goals during his seven-year spell in Italy.
