Mutu extends Viola stay

Mutu extends Viola stay

Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has agreed a contract extension which will keep him at the Serie A club until 2012.

The Romania striker enjoyed a spectacular season last campaign, displaying the kind of form that had seen him added to several clubs' wish-lists.

But a statement on the club's official website, www.acffiorentina.it, confirmed the contract extension with a slight increase in wages and the prospect of performance-related bonuses.

According to reports, Schalke had been prepared to break the bank to tempt the 29-year-old to move to Germany.

There was also talk of a rift between Fiorentina and Mutu, with the player said to be unhappy with his salary.

But all speculation about his future has now been dispelled by the news he will stay in Florence for the next four years.

Mutu, who has also had spells with Parma, Juventus and Chelsea, has scored 33 goals in 62 appearances for Fiorentina.
