Inter turn to Sulley Muntari

With the capture of Frank Lampard looking increasingly unlikely to bear fruit, Inter Milan are eyeing Sulley Muntari.

With Lampard included in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of China, Inter are drawing up a list of alternatives and Inter boss Jose Mourinho now has Portsmouth’s Muntari in his sights.

Muntari is no stranger to the Serie A, having excelled with Udinese before Harry Redknapp splashed US$19 million to bring the Ghanaian to Fratton Park.

While Muntari does not have the box-to-box skills as of Lampard, the burly midfielder adds a defensive dimension to his game and bags a powerful shot, demonstrated by his superb strikes last season in the Premier League.

It is understood that a fee of US$24 million should be enough for Pompey to do business with Inter.

Certainly, Muntari does not have the same qualities going forward as Lampard does, as he's a more defensive player, but he's known to have a similarly hard long-range shot.

Another factor working in Inter’s favour is that fact that Muntari shares the same agent as Mourinho in Jorge Mendes, who could play a pivotal role in persuading the player to depart the South Coast.
