Solari snubs Roma for Atlético

Argentine midfielder Santiago Solari is poised to rejoin Atlético de Madrid after snubbing interest from AS Roma.

After being released by Inter Milan, with whom he made a grand total of 39 appearances since his move in 2005, the 31-year-old has opted to head to Spain rather than carry on plying his trade in Italy, with Roma said to be interested to snap him up.

Atlético are in need of a classy midfielder and after admitting defeat in their bid to sign Valencia’s David Silva, the club have moved quickly to sign former Real Madrid player Solari.

After seeing his contract at Inter expire at the end of last month, Solari took a short break before making a concerted effort to find a new club and looks to have now made a decision.

Solari’s first foray in Europe saw him join  Having made his professional debut with River Plate, Solari first move to Europe saw him join  Atlético from River Plate in 2000, where he stayed two seasons before making the brave decision to jump ship to Real Madrid in 2000 after his club’s relegation from La Liga.

Despite failing to hold down a regular first team place at the Bernabéu, the former Argentina international was popular figure among fans.
