Trio earn Japan World Cup call-up
Japan national team coach Takeshi Okada has named his final squad for next weekend's World Cup qualifier against Bahrain.
Tokyo Verdy forward Masashi Oguro, Kashima Antlers defender Atsuto Uchida and Kyoto Sanga defender Hiroki Mizumoto all got the nod on Friday.
Japan coach Takeshi Okada added the trio to the squad of 20 he named on Monday for their opening Group A tie in Manama on September 6.
Oguro was included for the 3-1 loss to Uruguay earlier this month, while Uchida and Mizumoto have been recalled after playing for the Under-23 side at the Beijing Olympics.
The 23-man squad will begin training near Tokyo on Saturday to prepare for their visit to Bahrain.
"I've decided to pick those three players, considering the condition of the initial 20 players and the tactics required to play Bahrain," said Okada.
"Those three players have some experience with the senior team and know the concept of our game.
"I hope we will have a good camp before heading to Bahrain and can produce a good result from our first match."
