Brazil brush Chile aside
Luis Fabiano scored a pair of goals and Robinho added another as Brazil hammered Chile 3-0 in Santiago on Sunday.
This superb victory now see them climb up to second in the South American World Cup qualifying table. The visitors had failed to score in their previous two qualifiers but asserted their dominance against the home side with Robinho sounding an early winning when he was denied in a one-on-one opportunity by goalkeeper guardian Claudio Bravo.
Humberto Suazo squandered Chile's only chance of the first half when his shot just cleared the crossbar.
Brazil took advantage of that let-off, taking the lead in the 21st minute when Luis Fabiano headed in a free-kick by Ronaldinho.
Chile keeper Claudio Bravo kept his side in the game by saving a Ronaldinho penalty but he was unable to prevent the Brazilians from taking a 2-0 lead as Robinho turned in a cross to extend the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Brazil were reduced to 10 men early in the second half when defender Kleber was sent off after collecting his second yellow but the numbers were evened up in the 62nd minute when substitute Jorge Valdivia was also sent to the dressing room for stamping on Josue's calf.
Luis Fabiano sealed the three points when he scored his second of the game by firing a shot that went between Bravo's legs with five minutes to go.
Brazil moved up to 12 points, two behind leaders Paraguay and level with Argentina, who have an inferior goal difference.
The Brazilians will host last-placed Bolivia on Wednesday while Chile next play Colombia.
