Belgium vs Spain Preview

Iker Casillas has dismissed any suggestion of a rift between him and Fernando Torres as Spain prepare to face Belgium.

Both Casillas and Torres are among the favourites to win the coveted Ballon d'Or later this year, and media speculation has alluded to this having caused a possible conflict between the two players.

However, Real Madrid goalkeeper Casillas on Tuesday sought to draw a line under the topic, saying: "We've spoken about this. Fernando Torres is my team-mate and my friend, that's the final thing on this controversy. Everything is cleared up between us."

Torres said: "There is no problem, this is something that I don't want to talk about any more. Everything was misinterpreted, we didn't have a problem."

That news will be welcomed by Spain coach Vicente del Bosque, with the two players forming a vital part of the Iberian nation's all-conquering team.

The big picture for Spain could hardly be any better heading into Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Belgium in Brussels.

Spain are unbeaten in their last 26 matches, of which the last 16 have all ended in wins - albeit one via a penalty shoot-out victory over Italy in the quarter-finals of Euro 2008.

The team has also now gone 710 minutes without conceding a goal, breaking a national record set by former stoppers Andoni Zubizarreta and Paco Buyo.

Casillas, who now owns that new mark in tandem with Jose Reina, also smashed his own personal record of not conceding an international goal during Saturday's 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Estonia, extending it from 610 minutes to 643.

Casillas admits things are going pretty well for him at the moment, saying: "It's one of the best moments (of my professional career), yes.

"The European Championships brought immense joy which changed the history of the national team. With Real Madrid I've also achieved success. I cannot, nor should I, complain."

The Spain skipper also believes the national team are going from strength to strength.

"The wind is currently blowing in favour of the national team, who are working as a team," he added in AS.

"We are not unbeatable, but with every victory we re-affirm ourselves and means our opponents are finding it more difficult to find a weak point.

"The national team is at the point where France and Germany were at 10-12 years ago. We are a young and title-winning team, and we need to take advantage of the momentum."

Spain have the only 100% record in Group Five having beaten Bosnia-Herzegovina, Armenia and Estonia in their opening three matches.

Belgium, for whom striker Wesley Sonck has netted four goals already, are in second spot, level on seven points with Turkey, having won their home games against Estonia and Armenia and drawn away in Istanbul.

It is a decent start for Belgium, but coach Rene Vandereycken knows it is about to get a lot tougher for his troops.

"We're taking on a team that haven't lost for a very long time, so we can expect a much tougher task than against Armenia," he said.

"Spain are the European champions and number one in the FIFA rankings. It's clear they are favourites for the game.

"But in our stadium, with the support of the fans, we have a chance. We will play with the aim of causing an upset."
