WCQ: CONCACAF Preview

Costa Rica and Honduras compete for direct qualification for next summer's World Cup in the final round of CONCACAF qualifiers.

Costa Rica travel to the United States needing to win to avoid going into a play-off with a South American side while Honduras play El Salvador in San Salvador.

If third-placed Costa Rica draw, goal difference will help Honduras if they beat the Salvadorans.

Both teams would be level on 16 points, but Honduras would clinch the direct qualification and send Costa Rica down to the play-off position.

Costa Rica defender Luis Alberto Marin believes the match against the US will not be easy at all even though Bob Bradley's side have already progressed to the World Cup.

"This match will be very different to Saturday's against Trinidad and Tobago. United States have not lost at home for a long time and they will not give away anything despite already being qualified," said Marin.

Michael Umana, who is able to play after being banned for the Trinidad and Tobago match, added: "This is the most important match in our lives, a must-win game and we are ready to succeed."

Bradley wants to win in order to finish top in the CONCACAF Zone: "It is important to win the group. We take a great amount of pride in trying to be the best team in CONCACAF.

"The competition in the final round has been very strong and that's the reason everything has been very close. We're in position going into the Costa Rica game to finish first in the group, and that's the goal."

Honduras forward Carlos Costly is sure his team's chance are still alive: "Nothing is defined. God is with us and who laughs last laughs longest."

However, El Salvador coach Carlos de los Cobos believes his team has no reason to help Honduras: "This is our last match and we've been quite solid at home. We have to bring joy to our people with a win."

Finally in Port-of-Spain, Mexico visit already-eliminated Trinidad and Tobago in order to win the CONCACAF Zone. They will do without Rafael Marquez, who is suspended.

To win the group they must beat the Soca Warriors and hope the United States do not beat Costa Rica.
