
South Korea preparations start early
South Korea boss Huh Jung-moo has named a preliminary squad of 35 players for training camps in South Africa and Spain next month.
The 2002 semi-finalists has been drawn into Group B of the 2010 World Cup along with Argentina, Nigeria and Greece next June and as the European-based players are busy with their respective league seasons the squad, which will be reduced to 25 or 26 when the team departs on January 4, is made up entirely of players based in South Korea and Japan.
Huh has called up five players from Pohang Steelers' Asian Champions League-winning team and two, Shin Hyung-min and Kim Jae-sung, could make their debuts in friendlies.
There are 13 other players named who have never pulled on a national team shirt before.
"We haven't confirmed the dates yet but we have requested three matches," Huh told reporters in Seoul.
"We want to play three games in South Africa and then go to Spain."
There have been reports South Korea will take on Finland in Malaga on January 18.
