"Rooney is fantastic, Defoe terrific"
Harry Redknapp has lauded the striking talents of both Jermaine Defoe and Wayne Rooney.
The England duo have been in scintillating form this season with Defoe snatching his third hat-trick of the season in the FA Cup tie on Wednesday against Leeds United, while Rooney continued to dazzle with a goal against Arsenal at the weekend.
Speaking to The Mirror, Redknapp praised both players and reckons they can be a dynamic combination for Fabio Capello at the 2010 World Cup.
Redknapp said: "Rooney is the best front player I've seen for years, but Jermain is terrific in front of goal and there's no question he is up there with the most natural finishers.
"The great thing is that he is so full of confidence that he always backs himself, but that's how he has always been since he was a 15-year-old kid.
"I used to watch him playing for West Ham's youth team, banging in the goals every Saturday morning, and more often than not he'd come off the pitch with a hat-trick to his name - and he hasn't lost the knack, that's for sure.
"He's got stronger this season, and he's using that extra upper body strength a bit more to shake off defenders.
"Wayne is fantastic, he's the complete all-round player. But as a finisher, I'm sure Jermain will go to the World Cup. Fabio Capello will see all the goals he's scored."
Both players are set to make it to South Africa but Capello has always favoured Emile Heskey in a big-small strike option as compared to Defoe partnering Rooney.
If Defoe continues to smash in the goals for the rest of the season, it will leave Capello with a tough decision as to which two forwards should be the starting strike-force for England.
