Bierhoff hints at Kuranyi return

Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff has hinted Kevin Kuranyi can earn a recall to the national team.

Germany coach Joachim Low confirmed on Sunday he would be discussing the Schalke player with his coaching staff this week.

Bierhoff is not part of the meeting involving Low, Hans-Dieter Flick, Andreas Kopke and Urs Siegenthaler in the Black Forest this week, but he claims to know Low well enough to know what will be going through his head.

And that could well mean good news for Kuranyi, who has scored 18 goals so far this season for the Royal Blues.

"I can guarantee one thing and that is that Joachim Low will only be thinking about the good of the team and considering how he can field the strongest team," Bierhoff told Eurosport.

"The issue of Kevin Kuranyi has flared up again in recent weeks quite simply because Kevin is having a great season and is in excellent form."

According to Bierhoff, Low would have no qualms about potentially showing a weakness by inviting Kuranyi back into his squad for the World Cup.

The 28-year-old has not been considered by Low since he walked out on the national team at half-time of their World Cup qualifier against Russia in October 2008.

Low insisted Kuranyi would never be given a second chance for as long as he is in charge of the national team, but public support for Kuranyi's reinstatement is growing and Bierhoff knows it would now be hard for Low to ignore him.

"The personal feelings of the coach which may exist regarding this issue will fall into the background," added Bierhoff.

"I think Kevin is behaving very well and is concentrating fully on Schalke."
