"North Korea can shock teams"

The scorer of North Korea's most famous goal believes Kim Jong-hun's side can surprise following the slender defeat by Brazil.

Kim's side held the five-time winners goalless until half-time in Johannesburg before Maicon and Elano put Brazil ahead in the second half.

Ji Yun-nam grabbed an 89th-minute consolation for North Korea and Pak Doo-ik, who scored the only goal as North Korea beat Italy 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals at the 1966 World Cup in England, believes Kim's side still have more to offer in South Africa to remain in the hunt for a place in the last 16.

"I never dreamt I would see a day like this. This is a big surprise. North Korean football will continue to shock the world," Pak told the Chosun Sinbo newspaper.

"They displayed tight co-ordination, high skills and good teamwork to stage a close match against Brazil.

"The score proves our team's strength. The world must have been shocked. Many countries became to recognise us."

North Korea next face Portugal, who shared a goalless draw with Ivory Coast, on Monday in Cape Town before rounding off Group G against the Africans on Friday in Nelspruit.
