Osieck calls for Socceroos response
Australia coach Holger Osieck is hoping his charges can bounce back from Friday's loss to Oman by recording a win over Thailand on Tuesday.
Australia's 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign took a blow last week when Oman recorded a shock 1-0 win over the Socceroos, courtesy of Amad Al Hosni's 18th-minute strike.
However, the Australians remain in pole position to qualify from Group A, holding a four-point lead over second-placed Saudi Arabia.
And Osieck is keen for his men to secure progress to the final round of qualifiers by beating Thailand on Tuesday evening.
"[The feeling] was hurt after the [Oman] game and disappointment but now it's definitely more about a determination and a wanting to give a positive reaction," Osieck told The Age.
"We've addressed a number of things since the game against Oman and now it's about putting the talking into action.
"We also have to put in a good performance because of the way we played against Thailand the last time, so we have no excuses, no surprises on how they are going to play."
Thailand gave the Socceroos a huge scare the last time both sides met in September, taking a shock lead through Teerasil Dangda, before Australia hit back with goals from Josh Kennedy and Alex Brosque.
And while a draw on Tuesday would be enough to send Australia through, Osieck has made it clear to his men that nothing but a win would suffice.
"We must win the game to get the job done... if you go into a game to draw then you are going in for the wrong reasons."
Osieck will be forced to make at least two changes against Thailand after injuries to Harry Kewell and Rhys Williams, but the Australia coach insists he will not be taking any risks for the pivotal clash.
"It's not a situation to go for any experiments.
"I said it right after the [Oman] game and after the video analysis it was reinforced, and we're going to play differently on Tuesday, that's for sure."
Even if Australia do lose to Thailand, they could still qualify on Tuesday should Oman beat Saudi Arabia in Group D's other game.
