Bhullar set for Iskandar Johor Open

Promising golfers Gaganjeet Bhullar, Chinnarat Phadungsil and Noh Seung-yul will compete at the Iskandar Johor Open.

The supremely talented trio will go head-to-head against defending champion Retief Goosen of South Africa and Asian Tour honorary member K.J. Choi of Korea at the US$1 million event  from October 22 to 25 at the Royal Johor Country Club.

Bhullar, who won his maiden Asian Tour title at the Indonesia President Invitational in July, will be aiming for redemption in Johor. Last year, he led after the second round but failed to hang on to his lead in what is the second richest tournament in Malaysia.

The 21-year-old has been in terrific form this year with one victory and three second place finishes on the Asian Tour this season and currently lies in sixth position on the Asian Tour Order of Merit. He has also won five times on the Indian circuit this year.

Chinnarat showed why he is one of the brightest prospects to emerge from Thailand when he claimed his third Asian Tour title on home soil at the Queen's Cup in Samui in August.

It was a welcome return to form for the 20-year-old, who holds the distinction of being the youngest winner on the Asian Tour. He also finished tied 11th at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters this year and will be looking to make his mark at the Iskandar Johor Open.

Teen sensation Noh rose to fame when he bagged his maiden title at the 2008 Midea China Classic en route to being named the Tour's Rookie of the Year. He has followed up on that success with six top-10 finishes this season which has placed him in 14th place on the Order of Merit.

Manjit Majid Abdullah, the organizing secretary of the Iskandar Johor Open, was delighted with the star-studded line up.

"We are very excited with the line-up of players from the Asian Tour that are expected to make their presence felt in the tournament. With the return of Retief Goosen and K.J. Choi, I'm confident that this year will be one of the most memorable tournaments since its inauguration in 2007," said Manjit.
