Title joy for flawless Choi
South Korea's KJ Choi posted a bogey-free eight-under-par 64 to claim a four-stroke victory at the Iskandar Johor Open.
Asian Tour honorary member Choi finished at 20 under par after three rounds at the Royal Johor Country Club after the full field Asian Tour event was earlier reduced to 54 holes due to inclement weather.
Big-hitting Thai Chapchai Nirat amazingly chipped in at 15, 17 and 18 to post a six-under 66 and claim second, a shot clear of defending champion Retief Goosen (62) and India's Himmat Rai (70).
Japan's Kodai Ichihara (69) and Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat (64) finished tied for fifth, eight shots off the pace.
Choi began in spectacular fashion with three straight birdies before picking up a further two shots at six and seven to reach the turn in 31.
Further birdies at 11, 12 and 18 sealed the title, while Choi ensured his bogey-free round with a chip-in par save at the 15th after his tee shot found the water.
Seven-time PGA Tour tournament winner Choi said: "I was not really concerned about my shot on the 15th hole. Even if I had made a bogey, I knew that the next few holes were difficult holes and I had some space between Himmat so I kept myself calm and it helped with the way I played."
After picking up a fourth Asian Tour title, Choi will turn his attentions to next week's lucrative Barclays Singapore Open, which will be co-sanctioned by the European Tour for the first time this year.
"It is not easy to win on the Asian Tour. The depth of talent of the players here is very deep," added Choi.
"If you do not manage yourself and your game, you cannot win out here. For me to win my first Asian Tour title outside of Korea is a testament of how difficult it is to play here."
