Ian Poulter has won the Barclays Singapore Open after beating China's Liang Wenchong by one shot on Sunday.

By Eugene YS Han from Sentosa

The Englishman finished Day Four at the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club with one-over 72 and ten-under 274 overall for the whole tournament. Poulter had led for as much as five strokes at the halfway stage of the tournament.

"It was a dramatic last two days for me," said Poulter. "I just found myself dropping silly shots and making this tournament more interesting."

China's number one golfer Liang carded an overall nine-under 275 to finish second.

Australia's Adam Scott, a two-time winner here, and Scott Hend finished joint third.

World number two Phil Mickelson eventually finished four-under and tied at 14th place. Despite not winning, the American was still the undisputed crowd winner.

"The golf course is in great shape. I love coming to Singapore I love the people, I love the golf course I love my time here," Mickelson said.

South African Ernie Els also finished four-under, two-under 280 for the tournament while Padraig Harrington was tied for 38th place after carding par 284 overall.

India's latest golfing sensation Gaganjeet Bhullar missed out on a top-ten finish after carding two bogeys in the last three holes to card two-under 69 and he eventually finished four-under 280 for 14th place.

With this win, Poulter has earned US$833,330 and the 33-year-old has now moved to tenth place in the Race to Dubai.

This is his first European Tour victory since the 2006 Madrid Masters - a win-less streak that stretched for three years and 14 days.

Poulter also gains a two-year European Tour exemption until the end of 2011.

This is also the eighth time an Englishman has won in the 2009 European Tour season. They are: Paul Casey (Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and BMW PGA Championship), Nick Dougherty (BMW International Open)m Simon Dyson (KLM Open and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship), Ross McGowan (Madrid Masters), Lee Westwood (Portugal Masters) and Poulter (Barclays Singapore Open).
