Before the golfers head out to the greens of Augusta, Eugene YS Han looks ahead at some of the stats and trivia that matters.
- The 2009 Masters Tournament will be the 73rd edition in 2009.
- The first major of the year also has the smallest field among the four majors.
- One can't apply for membership at the Augusta National Golf Club; you must be invited to join.
- Lee Elder was the first African-American golfer to play at the Masters in 1975.
- Gary Player became the first non-American to win the Masters in 1961 by beating the defending champion Arnold Palmer.
- Mike Weir was the first southpaw to win the Masters in 2003. He was also the first Canadian to win a major.
- Each hole is named after a plant or shrub. For example, hole No. 17, where the famous Eisenhower tree is at, is called "Nandina."
- Since 2001, ten bank robberies have occurred in and around the week of the tournament in Augusta alone.
