How it all went wrong for McIllroy

Four strokes in front after three rounds at Augusta, Rory McIlroy slumped when it really mattered on Sunday.

Still leading as he stood on the 10th tee, the North Irishman took a triple-bogey seven on the first hole of the back nine after his tee shot rebounded off a tree and in among the cabins which sit back from the fairway.

It prompted a disastrous run for the 21-year-old and he finished down in a tie for 15th - 10 shots behind eventual champion Charl Schwartzel.

How disaster struck for McIlroy

First hole: McIlroy makes a bad start with a bogey five and his four-stroke lead is down to two instantly.

Second hole: Drives into sand and hits the lip coming out. From 250 yards his third is pulled into another bunker and while he is delighted to splash out to five feet and save his par five he suddenly finds himself only joint leader as Charl Schwartzel produces an eagle two.

Third hole: Gets back on track with a birdie.

Fourth hole: Misses from three feet for a five at the 455-yard fifth.

Seventh hole: A 15-foot putt gives him a birdie.

Ninth hole: Two-foot par putt gives him a one-shot lead - and an outward 37.

Tenth hole: His hooked drive hits trees and flies over in between the cabins way left of the fairway - and not far from the tee. After his next shot he still

needs a wood, but goes left with that as well. His pitch catches another tree before he chips and two-putts for a triple-bogey seven.

Eleventh hole: Three-putts for bogey.

Twelfth hole - Four-putts the 12th for a double-bogey five to be seven over for the round - five under for the tournament and in 11th place, five off the lead.

Fifteenth hole - Drops another shot at the long 15th with a bogey six.
