Mamat set for Mercedes-Benz
Mardan Mamat will play in the Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore at Laguna National Golf and Country Club next week.
Singapore's top golfer will line up alongside a strong field of golfers from the ASEAN region when the inaugural US$50,000 tournament is played from November 5 to 8.Malaysians Danny Chia and Perisamy Gunasegaran, Felix Casas and Jay Bayron from the Philippines, Maan Nasim from Indonesia and Thai golfers Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Panuwat Muenlek, and Nakul Vichitryuthasastr are some of the leading players who will make the trip to Laguna National.
Mamat showed he is coming into form by finishing joint third in Midea China Classic on the Asian Tour earlier this month and will be keen to win his first title on the Mercedes-Benz Tour.
“I have been starting to play well recently so I am looking forward to playing in the Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore. It will be the first time I have played on the Tour this year so hopefully I can start with a win. It was also be a good warm up for the following weeks Barclays Singapore Open,” said Mamat, who turns 41 tomorrow.
Mamat, a two-time winner on the Asian Tour having won the Indian Open in 2004 and the Singapore Masters in 2006, is currently in 26th place on the Asian Tour Order of Merit list with earnings of US$138,402.
The Tour visited Laguna National last year for the Laguna National ASEAN Championship, which was won by Filipino Angelo Que. Mamat ended in joint fifth position.
Que, who currently leads to Mercedes-Benz Tour Order of Merit with two wins and two second place finishes, is unable to compete due to other playing commitments.
The Classic Course at Laguna National will be used for the tournament which is the seventh leg on this year’s Mercedes-Benz Tour.
“The Mercedes-Benz Tour has really accelerated ahead this year with more tournaments and greater numbers of players so we arrive here on the crest of a wave.
We staged five events last season, one of which of course was at Laguna National.
We therefore return to Laguna National with fond memories and are proud to back with a tournament of greater stature,” said AC Wong, Executive Chairman, Mercedes-Benz Tour.
