Gaganjeet Bhullar's two-stroke emphatic victory at the Indonesian President Invitational made him the youngest Indian to win an international title. But apart from that no one knows much about the golf star in the making.
He is touted as one of the brightest young talent on the Asian Tour. Turning professional in 2006 at the age of 18, the Kapurthala lad picked up a golf club when he was just four years old. And, since then his father knew that this day was in the offing.
"His swing was very good especially his shoulder movement. He's a natural golfer," Gaganjeet's father said.
Earlier this month, Gaganjeet qualified for the prestigious British Open, where he rubbed shoulders with the best golfers in the world. Fondly called by the friends and family as the Tiger Woods of Kapurthala, Gaganjeet surely has more things in common with the superstar, apart from talent. He shares with Tiger the passion for the game.
Gaganjeet's mother said, "He spends almost whole of his day at the golf course. And, even at home he is always imitating his golf swing action. It really shows his passion for the game."
The victory in Jakarta was worth $63,400 and moved the young Indian up to the 10th place on the Asian Tour Order of Merit. But more than that, the win also gave the 21-year-old, the belief and conviction that he can make his mark on the world stage -- which he just gave a glimpse of.
