Idoki takes charge in Japan

Veteran Koki Idoki fired a hole-in-one to take the clubhouse lead at six under after the first round of the Fujisankei Classic.

Idoki aced his second hole of the day to pick up an early eagle before finishing with three straight birdies to sign for a 65, which included two bogeys, to sit three clear of Katsumasa Miyamoto and Toru Taniguchi.

Miyamoto carded six birdies to claim his opening round 69 but disappointingly finished with a costly double bogey, while Taniguchi earned a share for second after managing five birdies.

Teenager Ryo Ishikawa, who was forced to settle for third last week at the Vana H Cup KBC Augusta despite leading heading into the final round, sits in a group of seven tied for fourth at two under.

Nine players will have to complete their rounds tomorrow after darkness ended proceedings with Tatsunori Nukaga best placed at two under with two to play.
