Norman names wild cards

Greg Norman named Ryo Ishikawa and Adam Scott as his two wild cards for the Presidents Cup in San Francisco on October 8-11.

American captain Fred Couples, meanwhile, added US Open champion Lucas Glover and Hunter Mahan to his 10 automatic qualifiers.

Ishikawa won his fifth JapanTour title on Sunday and was today included in the world's top 50 for the first time.

Scott, on the other hand, has crashed from third in the world to 53rd in just over a year and missed the halfway cut in 10 of his last 15 events.

Norman could have gone for four higher-ranked players in South African Rory Sabbatini, Indian Jeev Milkha Singh, Japan's Shingo Katayama and Thai Thongchai Jaidee and his selection of a fellow countryman will have shocked many.

Not so Couples.

Glover and Mahan were strongly fancied to be his two picks - Glover as a winner of the year's second major and Mahan because he was unbeaten on his Ryder Cup debut last year.

Norman's International side comprises players from the rest of the world minus Europe and the first 10 qualified off the world rankings.

The United States won the last match in Canada by five points.

Teams: United States - Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Kenny Perry, Zach Johnson, Stewart Cink, Sean O'Hair, Jim Furyk, Anthony Kim, Justin Leonard, Lucas Glover, Hunter Mahan

International: Geoff Ogilvy, Vijay Singh, Camilo Villegas, Retief Goosen, Ernie Els, Angel Cabrera, Mike Weir, Robert Allenby, YE Yang, Tim Clark, Ryo Ishikawa, Adam Scott
