Faultless Ikeda moves into lead

Yuta Ikeda shot an eight-under-par 64 to take a two-stroke lead at the end of the opening round of the Tokai Classic.

The 23-year-old, who has two wins on the Japan Tour so far this season, produced a faultless round at the Miyoshi Country Club to move ahead of Katsumasa Miyamoto.

Miyamoto carded an impressive nine birdies, including five in succession from the fourth, but dropped three shots for a six-under 66.

American-born Han Lee and Kiyoshi Murota were three shots off the pace on five under while five players were tied fifth on four under.

Japanese starlet Ryo Ishikawa carded four birdies against three bogeys for a one-under 71 while defending champion Toshinori Muto endured a torrid round as he signed for a four-over 76.
