England's Greg Owen and American rookie Rickie Fowler carded second-round 64s to share the lead at the halfway stage of the Frys.com Open in Scottsdale, Arizona.
First-round leader Nick O'Hern could manage only a two-under 68 on Friday, while Owen and Fowler - who both posted 65s on Thursday - went one better in their second rounds to reach the midway point at 11 under.
Owen is hoping he can maintain his fine form over the next two days.
"A good week would mean I've got a job for next year," he said.
The 37-year-old acknowledged his round could have been even better but was delighted with his first two days' work on the whole.
"I didn't miss a green (on Thursday), and I hit plenty (on Friday)," he said. "I've actually played really, really well.
"There are a few opportunities... I'm not going to talk about them really, but there are a few opportunities I missed as well. At 17, I had six feet and missed.
"There were a few putts out there, but I holed a few as well, which was great."
Fowler, competing at only his second PGA Tour event, will head into Saturday relishing being in with a chance of winning a tournament so early in his career.
"I knew I could be in this position if I just played my game," he said. "You know, these last two weeks I have been playing fairly solid.
"The game feels good, so I'm looking forward to this weekend being in the position that I am."
Fowler's compatriot Justin Leonard also carded a 64 to finish Friday on 10 under and in third spot, one behind the joint leaders.
Australian O'Hern was a shot further back in a share of fourth with American Ryan Moore, who went round in 65.
Chris Stroud, Heath Slocum, Bryce Molder, Tim Clark and Stephen Ames are also still very much in contention at eight under.
