Gleeson leads after first round

Australian David Gleeson shot a five-under 67 to move into a one-shot lead at the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open.

The 31-year-old picked up birdies on the second and third before dropping a shot on the par-five ninth to reach the turn in 35.

Gleeson then enjoyed a flawless run coming home, adding four more birdies - including one on the 18th - to claim the early lead as he looks to secure his third win on the Asian Tour.

"The 18th hole is one of the strong holes here so I am quite surprised I was able to sink that putt," he said. "It was one of those that fell in the last minute.

"I didn't know it was going in but it is definitely good to move away from the rest."

Filipino Artemio Murakami is looking to secure his place in Asia next year and did his chances no harm with a 68 today to join five other players in a share of second place.

"I have to continue to shoot a low number in my next three rounds to give myself a chance of keeping my card but I do not want to put too much pressure on myself," he said. "I will just play according to my own pace."

England's Chris Roake, who secured his Asian Tour card in January, shot a 69 to lie one shot further behind in a group of six players.
