Kuboya opens up lead

Kenichi Kuboya moved into a three-stroke lead after the first round of the Dunlop Phoenix following a six-under-par 65 today.

The 37-year-old, looking for his first win on the Japan Tour since 2002, picked up eight birdies against two bogeys at the Phoenix Country Club.

Shingo Katayama, Ryuichi Oda, Kazuhiro Yamashita, Michio Matsumara, Shintaro Kai and Kiyoshi Miyazato are in a share of second place after carding 68s.

Vijay Singh, making his first appearance on the Japan Tour in nine years, opened with a 71 along with money leader Ryo Ishikawa.
