Nordqvist secures title in Texas

A final round surge secured Anna Nordqvist victory at the weather-ravaged LPGA Tour Championship in Texas.

The 22-year-old Swede recorded eight birdies against one bogey in a seven-under-par final round 65 today to finish top of the leaderboard by two strokes at The Houstonian Golf and Country Club.

World number one Lorena Ochoa was second, while South Korea's Na Yeon Choi and overnight leader Kristy McPherson finished tied for third.

Nordqvist was equal third overnight after a four-under-par second round took her to six under overall, but a phenomenal closing 18 holes on the postponed final day delivered her second LPGA Tour title in the inaugural LPGA Tour Championship.

The Swede birdied the second before a run of five successive birdies around the turn, from the par-three eighth to the par-five 12th, was halted by a bogey five on hole 13.

Nordqvist immediately recovered the stroke with her seventh birdie of the round before an eighth on the par-three 15th.

Ochoa also recorded eight birdies, but the Mexican hit three bogeys in her five-under-par 67.

Nordqvist did not record the day's lowest round, however, as South Korea's Na hit an eight under 64 featuring seven birdies an eagle and a bogey to finish tied for third.
