BPL Numbers Game 7
Eugene YS Han looks at the footie statistics that mattered from the seventh weekend of the Barclays Premier League.
1 - Sunderland collected their first point against the 'Big Four' - stopping a run of ten successive top-flight losses against this group since 2006.
2 - Hull City claimed their second straight win in North London after victories over Tottenham and Arsenal. Also, the number of times Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso 'caused' an opposition player to be sent-off this season.
3 - Wes Brown scored his third career league goal in his 12th season in the Premier League, having played 202 league matches for Manchester United.
7 - Aston Villa have managed to field the same starting eleven for the seventh straight league game.
10 - Arsenal and Sunderland are the top league goal-scorers in the last ten minutes of matches. They have both scored four goals in the last ten minutes.
12 - Liverpool's win over Manchester City made it their best points return from the first seven games of a Premier League season for 12 years.
24 - The number of players Manchester United have used so far this season - the most for any other club.
25 - The total number of league goals scored over the weekend (one more than last week).
29 - Fernando Torres became Liverpool's highest foreign scorer in Premier League history after his City brace on Sunday. The in-form Spaniard leapfrogged Patrick Berger with a league tally of 29 and counting. Torres claimed the record in just 39 games – compared with Berger's 148.
42 - The number of yellow cards dished out (nine were shown at the Stadium of Light). Only one red card was given out (to Pablo Zabaleta).
70 - The total number of league goals scored by Wayne Rooney. Since his debut for Everton at the start of the 2002/2003 season, only four players have scored more goals in the Premier League: Thierry Henry (116), Robbie Keane (81), Ruud van Nistelrooy (72) and Yakubu Aiyegbeni (71).
86 - The number of home games unbeaten for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea also notched their 50th competitive victory over Aston Villa in their 136th meeting in league and cup.
96 - Tottenham have made the worst start in 96 years after they failed to win any of their first seven games of a league season. In 1912 (the same year the Titanic sank), the Londoners took 13 games to register their first win. They lost nine games and drew three of their opening 12, until they beat Newcastle 1-0 at home on 23 November 1912.
100 - Both Joe Cole and Xabi Alonso made their 100th Premier League starts for their respective clubs.
200 - The total number of appearances made by Rooney in the Premier League. His teammate Cristiano Ronaldo also made the same number of starts in the Premier League - all for Man Utd.
250 - Peter Crouch made his 250th career league appearance (Tottenham, QPR, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Norwich, Southampton and Liverpool).
402 - Bolton's all-time Premier League goals total.
600 - The total number of goals Middlesbrough have scored in the Premier League. Boro's win over Wigan was also their first away win in the league this year.
1000 - Torres' first goal in Liverpool's 3-2 victory at Manchester City was the 1,000th goal the Reds have scored since the inception of the Premier League. This is also the total number of defeats suffered by Stoke in league football since World War Two.
- Cesc Fabregas scored his first away goal in the league for almost a year – he last scored away from home in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Liverpool, October 28, 2007.
- West Brom won back-to-back league games for only the third time in their history. They last won back-to-back games in March 2005.
- Middlesbrough remain the only team in the Premier League not to have conceded a first half goal this season. They last conceded a first half goal in their 3-2 defeat at Sunderland, April 26.
- West Brom's home win over Fulham made it their best start ever to a Premier League season.
