Bychkova battles through
Russia's Ekaterina Bychkova was the only player to cause an upset at the WTA Tashkent Open today, dumping out third seed Ioana Raluca Olaru.
Bychkova advanced to round two with a 7-5 7-5 victory over her Romanian opponent in the Uzbek capital.
Top seed Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan breezed through with a 6-1 6-1 rout of Italian Maria Elena Camerin.
The sixth and seventh seeds, Romania's Monica Niculescu and Austria's Patricia Mayr, also advanced with the minimum fuss, securing straight-sets wins against Italian Corinna Dentoni and Belarus' Ekaterina Dzehalevich respectively.
There will be home interest in the second round with Akgul Amanmuradova and Nigina Abduraimova of Uzbekistan getting through at the expense of qualifiers Ksenia Lykina of Russia and Lesya Tsurenko of Ukraine.
In other matches today, there were wins for Russian quartet Vesna Manasieva, Evgeniya Rodina, Ekaterina Ivanov and Alexandra Panova as well as Germany's Kathrin Woerle and Belarus' Darya Kustova.
