Two-time world champion Jaouad Gharib and Kenya's James Kwambai have been added to the line-up for the 2009 New York City Marathon.

A stellar men's field  to be held on November 1 featuring defending champion Marilson Gomes dos Santos and former winners Hendrick Ramaala, Paul Tergat and Martin Lel, was further boosted by two-time world half-marathon runner-up Patrick Makau and Irish Olympian Martin Fagan.

Race director Mary Wittenberg also confirmed the addition of Christelle Daunay, Tatyana Petrova and Yuri Kano to the women's race, won last year by Paula Radcliffe.
