Kateryna Bondarenko suffered a straight sets defeat to Roberta Vinci in the opening round of the BGL Luxembourg Open.

Bondarenko, the seventh seed from Ukraine, was beaten 6-0 6-2 by the unseeded Italian.

Switzerland's Patty Schnyder defeated Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-4 6-1 and Israel's Shahar Peer overcame Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic 6-1 6-3.

Other early results today saw Slovenia's Polona Hercog beat Italy's Maria Elena Camerin 3-6 7-5 7-5 and Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky beat Julie Coin of France 6-4 6-3.
