American Joe Ray connected with a right hand to KO compatriot Chad Reiner at Martial Combat 7 on Wednesday.

The 3-0 Ray (pictured in the black trunks) floored the 25-11 Reiner in round three.

The fight started tentatively with both men looking to conserve energy. Reiner was then able to take Ray down early on in the round but he  popped straight back up and connected with some well timed uppercuts. Ray connected late in that round and was looking to finish the fight there and then but ended up in Reiner's half guard instead as the bell sounded.

Ray, clearly looking more comfortable standing up, was having success with his spinning back elbow. The two fighters clinched and Ray ended up in Reiner's half guard again. The fight then became a standing battle as Ray landed another uppercut before Reiner looked for the takedown. They clinched up against the cage and Ray attempting a kimura before the bell sounded.

It was in the second round where Ray established his dominance.

Both fighters appeared to tire in round three of this five round fight and there was little to suggest that fireworks would follow. Reiner was getting the better of Ray in the stand up exchanges until Ray's legendary right hand brought a premature end to the contest.

In other results, Thailand's Chavilit Sidyodtong scored a TKO against Ben Nguyen in the second round of his debut.

The fight started after a couple of tentative exchanges saw Nguyen secure a takedown. Sidyodtong attempted a guillotine but Nguyen escaped easily and succeeded in securing a mount. The Thai fighter defended himself intelligently while taking sustained punishment for the remainder of the round.

Sidyodtong, looking far more comfortable on his feet, started round two with devastating head kicks that rocked his opponent. He followed up with a couple of hard leg kicks and began to put on a Muay Thai clinic. The American desperately tried a takedown but Sidyodtong ended up on top of Nguyen and landed a series of hard elbows to finish the fight.

And in the quickest fight of the night, Shane Wiggand lost to Angelito Manguray in the first round.

As a 42-year-old doctor, Manguray is one of the sport's most colourful characters fighting with a traditional karate background.

The contest was over after Wiggand attempted to clinch and was pulled to the ground. Manguray found himself in the dominant position and started pelting the American with a barrage of unanswered punches.

The referee had to examine Wiggand and eventually called a halt to the contest to prevent further punishment from the Filipino. It was a very impressive performance from Manguray, the latest in a long line of fighters from the Philippines to enjoy success at Resorts World® Sentosa Martial Combat^TM.

Also on the fight card last night was South African Vuyisile Colossa going toe-to-toe against China's Alex Niu.

A stiff jab from Colossa landed flush at the start of round one as he looked to put his stand-up skills to good use. Niu responded with a hip throw followed by an arm-bar attempt, but Colossa managed to wriggle free.

Niu attempted another takedown but it was telegraphed and easily stuffed as Colossa began to dominate with some crisp strikes of his own. Colossa's stand up skills were making the difference but Niu administered another takedown and ended up in half guard.

However, the Chinese was unable to use the position to good effect and Colossa got to his feet and unloaded on Niu, causing the referee to request for the doctor to check on Niu. The fight resumed and Niu showed great heart to fight back despite taking another heavy beating.

Niu got an early takedown in round two but Colossa shrugged it off almost immediately, and easily evaded the Chinese fighter's now tame strikes before landing a huge knee shot. Colossa continued to have his way with Niu and trapped him against the cage, landing an onslaught of punches before finishing the fight with another brutal knee to demolish his opponent.

Result: Colossa via KO at 2:57 minutes in round two.

Rounding up Wednesday's Martial Combat 7 action saw Nick Mellor beat Taiwanese fighter Victor Wang into submission. The Englishman won the match via TKO after 4:38 minutes of round two.

Mellor rocked Wang early in the opening round, taking him down but Wang sunk in a triangle choke. Mellow escaped and moved into side control, before both fighters got to their feet. Wang looked for a takedown but the Brit was clearly the more powerful of the two and drove him across the cage. With seconds remaining in the round Mellor took Wang's back and looked for a rear naked choke but ran out of time.

After a frantic exchange at the start of round two, the fight went to the floor and Wang sunk in a deep rear naked choke but Mellor eventually escaped and moved into side control again. Mellor landed a few elbows as the pace slowed but he worked diligently to secure the mount and decided the fight with a barrage of elbows on the Taiwanese.
