Comment: Russian roulette, Instant success?
Will Chelsea find success with Scolari at the helm? Or will Ferguson dominate the English game for yet another year?
And so, the Russian roulette has found the next dropdown. No.11 on the wheel spells Brazil and a World Cup winning coach by the name of Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Roman Abramovich has found a new toy in Scolari, a man who comes with an impressive resume in international football but club wise, he remains untested.
It seems strange that a man with little experience at club level has taken the reigns compared to hiring a tried and tested club coach like Marcello Lippi, or even Premier League rising star Mark Hughes.
The one core problem that might still linger on, even if Scolari finds his feet in the English game, is the fact that Chelsea's Russian owner is not willing to breed success.
He wants an instant shot at top honours and come the end of every season, if his obsessive goal is not met by whoever happens to be the current manager, he is more than prepared to wield his diamond-encrusted axe and bring someone else in.
It is surely little coincidence that stability has brought Chelsea's closest rivals, Manchester United, to where they are today with only Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm since 1998.
How many managers have Chelsea had in that same decade? Five.
And none have emulated the kind of success Ferguson has brought to Old Trafford.
Scolari will probably be the last throw of the dice for Abramovich in his constant quest for that one elusive title he so desperately wants, but has never won. The Champions League.
A great tactician of the modern game, Scolari will bring with him a wealth of intercontinental formations and game plans that will invigorate a way too defensive-minded Chelsea side.
While we wait and see how the current Portugal national coach does in the Barclays Premier League, here are some statistics to keep you entertained.
