Haga ready for British challenge

Nori Haga knows he will face the best of British at Donington Park on Sunday but is determined to get back to winning ways.

The Japanese rider leads the championship points standings because of his consistency on the Ducati Xerox machine, having finished on the podium in 12 of the 16 races so far this season.

But Haga is aware of the threat posed by the British wild card riders this weekend, with British Superbike Championship points leader Leon Camier expected to go well on the Airwaves Yamaha.

Haga said: "I realise that some of the Brits will be up there fighting for the podium places at their home track but I'll be giving them a run for their money."

Haga, who after a decade of racing in the world championship knows his opportunities to win the title are dwindling, hopes to put a disappointing day at Donington last season behind him.

He need only look to his team manager David Tardozzi for inspiration as the Italian won the first ever World Superbike race at Donington in 1988.

Haga can also draw inspiration from his own Donington debut which saw him win both races at the Leicestershire circuit in 1998.

However, his results have not been as good in recent years and he failed to finish either race there last season.

Haga said: "Last year I didn't have much luck at Donington at all, but if I put that aside, over the years I've done okay there and have had some race wins."

One thing Haga will be hoping for at the weekend is good weather as the rain played a big part in last year's British round of the series which was staged in September.

With a lead of 48 points over nearest rival Ben Spies (Yamaha World Superbike) in the series standings Haga knows he cannot affter too many slip-ups if he is to secure that elusive world title.

Haga added: "I'm still in the lead but I'll be doing all I can to extend the advantage I have."

With the season over halfway through, Haga knows a good weekend at Donington could prove a major boost to his title hopes.
