"Sutil was robbed of points"

"Sutil was robbed of points"

espnstar.com’s Rajarshi Gupta spoke to Vicky Chandhok, former president, Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India.

It was another near miss for Force India at the German Grand Prix on Sunday and a heartbreaking moment for Adrian Sutil.

FMSCI Race 4-wheeler international and Karting commission chairman, Chandhok felt Adrian Sutil was clearly robbed of Championship points in Germany.

“I honestly believe Force India were in the line for points but Kimi Raikonnnen’s ambitious move did it in.”

“Adrian’s team should have warned him of Raikonnen’s approach. Both the Force India cars were going strong but there should have been better synchronisation between the two teams.”

Like in the Monaco GP, Raikonnen brushed Sutil's VJM02 just when the German, running second, was coming out of the pit and knocked off the front wing to force a pit-stop that dashed Sutil's point hopes.

Giancarlo Fisichella, Sutil’s team-mate, who started 18th on the grid went on to finish 11th in the race.

Another chance goes begging

Chandhok felt everyone in the team got involved with the pit-stop and there was a lesson to be learnt from the sad miss.

“What happened was very unfortunate but there are lessons to be learnt and I am sure this will be dealt by the teams.”

Starting seventh on the grid, his and the team's best position ever, Sutil ran a steady race and was running second when he pitted after 27 laps.

As he was coming out of the pit to rejoin the race, Sutil could only watch as Raikkonen's car brushed his VJM02 and took the front wing with it. Incidentally, Raikkonen too sustained damage and eventually had to retire.

The stewards decided to probe the incident but that was hardly a consolation for Sutil.

However, Chandhok believes Force India owner, Vijay Mallya will not give up so easily.

Kimi at it again

“He had driven an F1 car in 1984 and having driven an F1 car before, he understands the sport and he won’t take it lying down.”

“Mallya will have a chat about this wit the team and I am sure he will ask why Sutil didn’t know about the pit.”

Meanwhile, famous Indian motor sport expert Eshwar said Mallya will be confident despite the German setback and will look forward to score some points in the other GP races.
