Schumi no show disappoints Sutil

Adrian Sutil counts himself among those dejected by Michael Schumacher's sensational F1 comeback that never happened.

Since Ferrari announced that Schumacher would replace Felipe Massa, who had a near-fatal crash in Hungary, F1 paddock was abuzz with the expectation of a fairytale return of the 40-year-old German, a seven-time champion.

The much-anticipated comeback, however, never happened as Schumacher withdrew with neck and head injuries, paving way for test driver Luca Badoer's elevation.

Sutil said he was keen to race with his illustrious compatriot but cannot help if circumstances dictate otherwise.

"I grew up watching Michael Schumacher at his peak and he was always a great inspiration for me as a young, German racing driver," Sutil told PTI from Valencia.

"I was really looking forward to racing with him as he's been one of my heroes and he retired just before I started in F1. But he has to do what he feels best for him," Sutil said.

"I wish Luca all the best, it's a great opportunity for him after his years as a test driver," added the German.

Fisichella, on the other hand, said a half-fit Schumacher stepping into the cockpit would not have been a wise move.

"If Michael was not hundred per cent physically ready, he did the right thing. F1 is a very physical sport and you cannot take a risk," Fisichella said, ahead of Sunday's European Grand Prix.

"I've known Luca (Badoer) a long time and I'm happy he can get his chance to race a Ferrari. For any Italian this is always a dream," added the veteran driver.

Despite getting nearly there, Force India so far has no points to show even though the likes of Lewis Hamilton, a close pal of Sutil, believes the Silverstone-based outfit would eventually break the duck in the second half of the season.

"We don't speak so much about our individual situations but I think we've surprised some people with our pace," Sutil said.

"You wouldn't just put us at the back any more," he added.

Sutil's view found an echo in Fisichella, who said Force India has done well for a team of its strength and budget.

"I hope we will score some points too! We are doing a fantastic job on a much smaller budget and resource than any other team, which is very respected in F1," Fisichella said.

Asked if he would attribute the point-jinx to luck, rather lack of it, Sutil said, "I don't think you can look at races in terms of luck. Of course points are the ultimate goal but we've had some really competitive races that hasn't been down to luck.
