Valsecchi grabs title after Bahrain win
iSport's Davide Valsecchi has clinched the GP2 Asia series title after triumphing in Bahrain.
With two wins and two second place finishes in four races this series, it was not so much a question of if Valsecchi would win the series title - it was a question of when.
The Italian did not wait very long to answer that question in Bahrain.
With his third win of the GP2 Asia Series, iSport's Valsecchi secured the driver's title with three more races still to go. The title is Valsecchi's first of any series he has raced in.
Beginning in second position, the window opened for Valsecchi when Jules Bianchi wasted his pole position with a very poor start.
The backbone for iSport International all series, Valsecchi made his move in lap 28 when he overtook Luca Filippi and then Javier Villa soon after. Filippi and Villa did, however, hold on to second and third place, respectively.
With Valsecchi taking much of the drama out of the driver's title for the final three races of the series, all eyes will be on the team standings. With iSport currently enjoying a 41 point lead over DPR it may not be much longer until that is wrapped up either.
