Armaan finishes tenth at Brands Hatch

Armaan Ebrahim has finished in the top 10 bracket at the Formula 2 Championship at Brands Hatch, UK.

The promising Indian racer bounced back in style, three weeks after his fatal accident in Belgium.

Chennai-based Armaan, who finished the race on the 10th spot, had survived a high-speed crash in the Formula 2 qualifying session in Belgium last month after his car veered off the track and ricocheted into a wall.

Braving stiff neck and back pain, Armaan (52:34:592), who had qualified way down the order for race two in the 22nd position, made a good start and moved up to 18th place by the end of lap one.

Using the turbo boost at the right time, Armaan made some blinding moves and in all passed eight cars in the accident ridden race, which saw two red flags and one safety car.

The race was finally red flagged again two laps before the completion.

Armaan said he needed time to settle in especially after suffering a disastrous crash just three weeks before in Belgium.

"It was a very tough weekend for me. More importantly, I did not know the Brands GP circuit and when you come out of a huge crash like the one I had in Belgium, you do need a few more laps to settle in well and get your confidence back," Armaan said in a statement.

"The neck and back muscles were still hurting quite a bit especially in the fast corners where there is a lot of G Force.

"The splits in section 1 and 3 were very good, but I was loosing a lot of time in section 2, which was the part of the track that I was not familiar with," he said.

"However, I got my act together in the race and did not let the qualifying result affect me. I was really pleased that I could attack the fast corners and make some very good passes on some very experienced drivers in the process right up to the finish.

"I now look forward to a break in India for 2 weeks and get all the medical tests done and hopefully I will be fighting fit for the next race in October," he added.

The next race is in the Donington Park, UK in the second week of October.
