Muller's WTCC title lead slashed
Yvan Muller's title lead was slashed as Alain Menu and Augusto Farfus shared the wins at the British round of the WTCC.
Chevrolet driver Menu converted pole position to victory in race one to seal his fourth win at the Kent track in as many years while BMW's Farfus also claimed a lights-to-flag win after starting from the front of the partially reversed grid for race two.
Reigning champion Muller suffered a miserable day, the SEAT man salvaging just two points from his weekend after being eliminated in the first race following collisions with Farfus and privateer Norbert Michelisz.
Muller's woes have seen his lead in the drivers' standings whittled down to five points by team-mate Gabriele Tarquini, who finished fourth and third today.
Farfus' win moves him onto 75 points and into the thick of the title race, the Brazilian now just six points behind Muller heading into the final four races of the season.
There was double podium joy for the British crowd in race one as Chevrolet's Rob Huff took second ahead of Guernseyman Andy Priaulx (BMW), while the pair also kept in close company in race two, taking sixth and fifth respectively.
After briefly swapping positions with Huff in the opening turns of race one, Swiss driver Menu was never troubled as he eased to victory at the head of the field, but battle did rage in his wake, with Huff forced to defend from the hard-charging Priaulx and Tarquini.
Priaulx lost third to Tarquini when the Briton tried and failed to pass Huff, but the three-time champion reclaimed the place from the Italian veteran five laps later and held station to the flag.
Further back, the SEAT of Rickard Rydell took fifth while BMW's Jorg Muller recovered from a five-place grid penalty to claim sixth ahead of Tiago Monteiro (SEAT).
Farfus claimed eighth and pole for race two with an impressive recovery drive from the back of the field after being caught up the multi-car incident eliminated Yvan Muller on the first lap.
Menu was involved in a first-corner tangle at the start of race two which pitch him off the track through Paddock Hill Bend and out of the points reckoning.
The safety car was then deployed for two laps as a precaution as the circuit's medical helicopter prepared to take off carrying Henry Surtees, who had been injured in the supporting Formula Two race earlier in the day.
When the safety car pulled off, Farfus made good his escape at the front, stabilising the gap to BMW Team Germany team-mate Jorg Muller to around a second as he eased away to the flag.
Muller held on to a comfortable second place, five seconds clear of Tarquini, who was gifted the final podium place by team-mate Rydell on the last lap.
Yvan Muller took seventh behind the squabbling Priaulx and Huff, while Monteiro rounded out the top eight.
