JK Tyre launch talent search
JK Tyres, Akbar Ebrahim and MECO Motorsport embarked upon a talent search programme for young motosport enthusiasts.
The programme started with North-East part of the country India and would move on to other states. The first programme was conducted in Dimapur in association with Nagaland Government. After two days of training, two boys in the age group 11-17 years were selected, who will be given the opportunity to undertake two full-fledged training programmes with MECO Motorsport, under the supervision of chief mentor Akbar Ebrahim. They would be given the opportunity to race in the JK Tyre Professional Indian National Rotax Karting Championship.
“We are proud to be associated with Nagaland government and MECO Motorsports for first of its kind initiative in North-East which is in continuation to JK Tyre’s commitment to take motorsport to every nook and corner of the country. Motorsport has caught the imagination of Indian youth and is already one of the most popular sports in the country. We strongly believe that youths in North-East have a lot of talent to make it big in the world of motorsport,” Sanjay Sharma, head, Motorsport Division of JK Tyres & Industries said.
“The objective of this initiative, conducted by MECO Motorsport, was to unearth motorsport talent in North- East and then train and support them so that they participate successfully at national and international levels. We sincerely thank Nagaland Government for supporting this noble cause,” he added.
“We are delighted to launch this initiative in North- East. JK Tyre is a pioneer in this arena and has a long and extremely successful history of supporting motorsport in the country. We are privileged to be their partners in this path breaking initiative and I will train the selected boys. We really appreciate Nagaland Government’s support in this talent search,” Mr. Akbar Ebrahim, Head, MECO Motorsport, said.
“It was surely a challenging experience for me to teach kids who have never driven a kart before. Its always difficult to open up too much as one has to keep the safety factor in mind, but the boys responded tremendously to the challenge,” he added.
17-year-old David and 13-year-old Tepo, the selected motorsport enthusiasts, would be driving competition karts. During the selection heats both David and Tepo handled the karts very well. They will be put through the basics of how to handle a powerful kart and then will be trained on the dynamics of the kart chassis and the fine tuning of the engine. They will also be exposed to a rigorous physical training program which will be mandatory to make it big in the world of motorsport.
The two selected Nagaland boys will be given two intensive two-day programs with the JK Tyre-MMS Karting Academy in Coimbatore under Ebrahim’s supervision with the Rotax engine karts. The program will be conducted in Coimbatore at the Kari Motor Speedway Kart Track. The boys will be put through the basics of how to handle a powerful kart and then will be trained on the dynamics of the kart chassis and the fine tuning of the engine. They will also be exposed to a rigorous and mandatory physical training program.
