Haslam raring to go on return

Leon Haslam has targeted podium finishes and race wins on his return to the FIM World Superbike Championship.

Haslam last race the championship in 2004 and is relishing the challenge of racing in a series which he expects to see close racing this season.

Haslam said: "For me, World Superbikes is wide open this year. I've been wanting to get back to it for a couple of years. I've finally done it, and the team I'm with are really enthusiastic."

Haslam believes the enthusiasm shown by the team was evident during the pre-season test in Portugal.

"They are a brand new team, but we showed our potential in Portimao with a rostrum there that we can run at the front," said Haslam.

"There's no-one out there I feel can beat me on track, but it is going to competitive. As long as I get the most out of myself and the team I am confident we are going to be pushing for podiums and wins.

"I was in World Superbikes in '04, the first year when James (Toseland) won, so I know most of the circuits. There are only two or three I'm not familiar with, so I'm really looking forward to it.

"There'll be a load of Brits out there, so that's something else to look forward to.

"There are also seven manufacturers, and I don't think there has been that many in one championship, with 15 factory riders.

"So for me, it's mega exciting. I now can't wait to get to Phillip Island in a few weeks' time."
