Camier looks to dominate Donington
British Superbike Championship pace-setter Leon Camier is confident of extending his current lead at Donington this weekend.
The Airwaves Yamaha rider has won three of four races at the opening two rounds of the campaign, and with a new package at his disposal the 23-year-old from Kent is in bullish mood heading into the weekend.
"The Airwaves Yamaha team has been working hard since Oulton Park on developing the race bikes and getting new engines ready, so it'll be great to see how the new package performs," said Camier. "Until we get on track it'll be hard to predict how we'll do, but if our top speed is competitive, I think we'll be looking good for some more strong results."
He added: "Heading into this weekend leading the championship is a great feeling, but it's still early days and we need to continue to learn and improve so that we're still top come the final round in October."
Despite Camier's dominance in terms of race wins, he has been kept honest in the championship standings by former MotoGP rider Sylvain Guintoli, who won the opening race of the season at Brands but has since been overshadowed by Camier, although his two third places at Oulton Park at least limited the damage done by the Englishman's double victory.
The Frenchman believes his familiarity with Donington will play into his hands this weekend, and he has warned he heads to the midlands circuit with the intention of wresting back the lead in the title race.
"I am really looking forward to the weekend and the good thing about Donington Park is that it is going to be easier from the start compared to Oulton Park," the Worx Crescent Suzuki rider told the official BSB website.
"I will be able to get into a rhythm straight away as I know the track whereas at the last round we couldn't get up to race pace straight away as I wasn't familiar with the circuit."
