More accolades for Adlington

Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington has been named the European woman swimmer of the year.

The 19-year-old won the 400metres and 800m freestyle - the latter in a world-record time - at the Games in Beijing.

Adlington also claimed the 800m title at the World Short-Course Championships in Manchester in April when she only narrowly missed American Kate Ziegler's world record.

The Nova Centurion swimmer received the award after a vote by the federations of the European governing body of swimming, Ligue Europeenne de Natation (LEN) and the writers of LEN Magazine.

Adlington also won the popularity prize.

The Mansfield-based teenager was also voted sportswoman of the year on Wednesday at the 60th Sports Journalists' Association British Sports Awards.
