DeGale eager for debut

Olympian James DeGale is desperate to make his professional debut after tasting the big-fight atmosphere.

The 2008 Olympic middleweight champion was part of a capacity crowd in London's Docklands to see Amir Khan knock out Oisin Fagan inside two rounds.

And he says the experience has made him even keener to experience the atmosphere for himself.

DeGale, 23, signed professional terms with promoter Frank Warren last week, and will fight for the first time professionally in February with fellow Olympians Billy Joe Saunders and Frankie Gavin also on the card.

"The atmosphere at the ExCeL was wicked," said DeGale.

"Amir Khan showed what a great fighter he is, and I'd love to get the crowd going in the same way he does.

"Their reaction on Saturday sent shivers down my spine, and has made me even more determined to make it as a professional.

"I know you have to deliver between the ropes if you want the public on your side, but I'm not going to let to them down.

"When I fight it will be excitement all the way, and just like Amir I want to sell out venues up and down the country.

"I've been speaking to Billy Joe and Frankie, and I know they feel the same way. When we are all boxing together the fans will not be going home disappointed."
