Haye hopes to solve Klitschko riddle
David Haye is still going to fight Wladimir Klitschko for the world heavyweight title, provided negotiations go through.
Haye, 28, agreed terms last month with Klitschko's older brother Vitali to challenge for the WBC heavyweight title in London this summer, having previously expected to take on IBF and WBO champion Wladimir, 32.
But Vitali instead opted to go ahead with a mandatory defence of his belt in March against Cuban challenger Juan Carlos Gomez, leaving Haye's world title ambitions on hold.
However his chances of fighting one of the brothers in June were boosted when Wladimir opted to face the Londoner instead of going through with his anticipated defence against Chris Arreola.
Talks are ongoing between the Klitschko camp and Haye's team, with manager and trainer Adam Booth saying they remain hopeful of staging the blockbuster showdown in London this summer.
"There's not a lot I can say at the moment because we're right in the middle of the negotiations," said Booth.
"We're at the core, the contract stage, and we're going backwards and forwards at the moment."
Asked whether the remaining details to be ironed out were major or minor, Booth said: "It's a bit of both.
"The sticking points are the first ones we've got to get over and then the loose ends are the ones that can be done quite quickly."
Booth refused to reveal what the outstanding issues are - but indicated date and location are not among them, with a bout in June still most likely.
He said: "That is what has been discussed.
"They made no qualms about the fact they wanted to come to London."
Haye made the permanent move up to heavyweight in November with an explosive stoppage victory over American veteran Monte Barrett in front of the watching Vitali Klitschko - before travelling to Germany for negotiations brandishing a magazine mock-up of him holding Wladimir's severed head.
