Bolt and Powell through in Jamaica

Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell have eased into their semi-finals at the Jamaican Championships in Kingston.

Bolt was the most impressive in the opening round, establishing an early lead then slowing down to win in a time of 10.14 seconds.

The Jamaican, who remained calm despite three false starts, said: "It was all right. After staying in the blocks so long, I did not want to explode."

Powell, who used similar tactics and won his qualifier in 10.36sec, said: "The aim was to get out and in front and stay there."

Olympic 400m silver medallist Shericka Williams and Novlene William-Mills, who was third at the world championships two years ago, progressed through their heats with times of 51.88sec and 52.50sec.
