Twell to represent Scotland

Stephanie Twell has confirmed she will represent Scotland at international level.

The world junior 1500 metres champion, whose mother Isobel is from Paisley, took the decision after carefully considering her options.

The 19-year-old, who is also a three-times European junior cross country champion, has yet to make her mind up about whether she will compete at next year's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

But Twell intends to wear Scottish colours when Glasgow host the 2014 Games.

"This is something that we have considered for a year or two and I knew in my heart that I would always opt for Scotland," she said.

"The time is right for that and my family - in particular my mother, who is from Paisley - are pleased with my decision."

Twell, who is coached by Mick Woods and is a frequent competitor in Scotland, added:

"I would love to compete in Glasgow in 2014 in a Scottish vest.

"That's going to be an amazing experience, but right now I am just concentrating on getting the best out of myself this summer.

"The women's 1500m has suddenly become an exciting event in Britain and the competition is extremely hot. I need to work on improving with every race."

Twell will meet her new colleagues at a squad night next month and then compete over 800m at the Grangemouth International meeting on August 26.
