Halsall strong finish in Singapore

World Championship silver medallist Fran Halsall rounded off a successful FINA World Cup series in Singapore.

The 19-year-old was only seventh fastest into the final forcing her to race from lane one but she produced a storming swim to win in a World Cup record of 51.19, narrowly outside Libby Trickett's world mark and inside her own national record.

The Loughborough ITC swimmer also lowered her own British mark in the 100m individual medley to 58.55secs to conclude her World Cup series.

Loughborough team-mate Lizzie Simmonds was second in the 100m backstroke in 57.10 and fourth in the 400m freestyle, an event she rarely swims.

Ross Davenport was third in the 200m freestyle.

Three world records were set in Singapore by Kathryn Meaklim (400m individual medley), Peter Marshall (50m backstroke) and Therese Alshammar (50m butterfly) taking the total number of marks set since the introduction of high-tech suits in February 2008 to over 230.
