Patrick Kane netted twice as the Chicago Blackhawks claimed a 4-3 shootout victory over the Dallas Stars.

The Blackhawks, who are second to San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference standings, also netted through Troy Brouwer before Kris Versteeg tucked in the decisive penalty.

Elsewhere, the Vancouver Canucks lost 3-1 to Tampa Bay Lightning, whose goals came from Martin St Louis (two) and Steven Stamkos.

Daniel Paille netted twice and David Krejci scored the decisive goal in the shootout as Boston Bruins beat Eastern Conference-chasing Buffalo Sabres.

Chris Mason saved from Henrik Zetterberg as the St Louis Blues edged to a 4-3 shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Jussi Jokinen, Joni Pitkanen, Matt Cullen and Tuomo Ruutu were on target as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Florida Panthers 4-1.

Alexei Kovalev, Jarkko Ruutu and Jason Spezza scored as the Ottawa Senators beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 and the New York Islanders claimed a 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators.
